Maybe you’ve decided it’s time to branch out into the world of social media – or you just want to make sure your page is up-to-scratch and you are getting the most out of it.

Why should you spend your valuable time on a FB page?

Facebook is the new Google, your potential customers are shopping, browsing and asking each other for recommendations for services and products EVERY day. If your page looks good and is delivering value – you could be getting leads and conversions from it 24-7.

Luckily – it’s much easier to set up than a website!

Let’s talk about the basics of good page set-up as well as options for the actual posting once your page is looking good…

First off – what should be on your page itself?

  1. Eye-catching cover photo/video. If a video isn’t easy/appropriate for your business, an image or slideshow which showcases what you do is totally fine. Use Canva to add in a few key words to describe the benefits of what you do. And if your business is about YOU, make sure the profile pic is your smiling face 🙂
  2. Up-to-date Our Story Section. Facebook named it ‘our story’ for a reason – tell your followers why you started your business, what you do and what makes you different. Use this section to connect and stand out. Use a feature photo of you or your team – keep it personal.
  3. Keep the About Section current. There is nothing worse than a website link that doesn’t work or an old phone number. Make it easy for people to check you out and get in touch.
  4. Edit your Templates and Tabs. Go to Settings and add or delete any tabs in a way that it’s relevant to your business. Add in Service sections and info, remove Events if you don’t run them, basically clean it up and keep it simple.

Now the other big question – what should you be posting on Facebook for your business?

I know that the pressure is on to ‘show up’ on social media as a business, but there are usually 3 ‘Levels’ when it comes to posting for most businesses to think about – and there is no right or wrong, it’s all about your goals.

Not every business needs to post every day, or multiple times a day, the important thing is that it is manageable and you can keep it consistent.

No fancy strategies needed – it’s all about showing up and giving valuable content to your followers.

Read through the ‘levels’ below and see which one sounds like you and fits your goals in terms of what you need to get out of your Facebook page…

Level One. Showing you exist and maintaining a ‘presence’ online.

This is if you are a smaller business who doesn’t need to drive 100’s of leads from your page, but need anyone looking to know that you exist.

So what should you post?

At the bare minimum, there should be a post introducing your business/describing yourself and letting anyone looking know why you aren’t super active on FB, e.g. “Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself as the face behind (brand name). You won’t see me much on here because (reason) but my business is alive and well and would love to help you out if we can. Get in touch if you need (CTA).”

TIP: Try to post every fortnight/month to make sure anyone visiting doesn’t see your last post was from a year ago and think you have closed up shop.

Level Two. Show your community you are active and can offer value.

This is if you don’t have time to post super often, but need to show you are active, responsive, and have great value to provide so it’s worth potential clients following you and staying in touch with your brand.

Try to post at least once a week – DON’T sell but DO include relevant calls to action.

–          Give value

–          Teach something

–          Offer industry advice

–          Posts that introduce yourself/your team

–          Behind-the-scenes posts of what you do

–          Relevant industry quotes/statistics

–          Occasionally offer a link where they can sign up, join in or learn more

TIP: Take advantage of  Facebook’s free scheduling tool to pre-post all your content so you can run it almost hands-free.

Level 3 and beyond. You want to make Facebook one of your main lead-generating avenues.

This is for businesses who know that most of their customers are on FB and want to create a community, consistently engage with their followers and use strategies to drive conversions. However – this means frequent posting and a big time investment!

There are dozens of different facebook strategies, using both natural posting (multiple-times daily), FB Live videos, sales funnels and advertising – again, this all depends on your purpose and goals.

Many businesses credit a large part of their income to how they use their FB page, and this might be an ideal avenue for your marketing efforts – stay tuned as I’ll cover aspects of this in an up-coming blog!

TIP. Think 80% value – 20% sales.

However you want to use your FB page, at the end of the day it is about you offering enough value to your followers that they like, trust and know you enough to give you their business.

It is not about using it just to advertise your products or services, Facebook (and marketing!) is about relationships first.
