You may remember that recently I moved from Perth to Brisbane, and spent 2 weeks driving across the country.
Phil and I navigated the Nullarbor, explored the wineries of South Australia, stargazed over the NSW outback and tapped into our inner hippy in Byron Bay.
There’s been a lot of time to reflect on life, have deep conversations, and discuss metaphysical topics such as the meaning of life and the purpose of this crazy journey.
What’s becoming even more clear to me, and is reflected in the books I’m reading lately, is that following our joy is the only journey we need to take.
To me, following my joy means listening to my feelings, tapping into my inner wisdom, and going with my gut.
Easier said than done?
To be honest, I’m still working out exactly how to DO those things (like, I’m still learning to tell the difference between my ego speaking from fear and my inner guidance speaking from truth) BUT when I do get it right, life just flows easily and everything is a lot more fun.
What’s most important is that you find a way to tune in to your own joy…
What makes you happy? What lights you up? What do you do that feels effortless? How do FEEL after you do certain activities? What gives you more energy and what drains it?
You know, I coined this term “Flowpreneur” when I first started thinking about what type of business I wanted to create, but I never used it because I thought no-one would get it, but I’m going to claim it now.
A Flowpreneur is someone who makes running business fun. It’s someone who AIMS to follow their joy, be chilled about challenges, and work in the flow more times than not. You don’t need to have it all figured out to be a Flowpreneur, you just have to know that’s it’s possible and be aiming for it.
Being a Flowpreneur is about following your own path.
When you’re new to business (and even when you’re not!) you’re always going to have people giving you advice… Oh you should do videos! … You HAVE to run facebook ads. … Why aren’t you going networking?
Their advice is well-meaning, but it comes from a place of THEIR joy. No matter how much they care for you, they don’t really know what makes you happy on the inside.
And what makes you happy on the inside is the true path you should be following. It’s the only path you should follow.
So with all these suggestions and ideas for what’s right in your business, ask yourself… is this what I WANT to do? No matter what other people suggest, you know the truth, on the inside. You might be scared to do it, like I was with my first videos, but I knew deep down that it was the right step.
What lights you up, where your joy is, might be hidden behind fear.
You know yourself deep down, you truly do. You might SAY on the outside, to everyone else, “oh no, I could never do that” but deep in your gut you feel it… you know that if you COULD, and if you DID, you’d be free. The world would be your oyster!
We only have one life. Life is MEANT to be easy and effortless. It’s MEANT to be fun and joy filled.
You know that feeling when everything just clicks into place, and you’re in flow? I follow the metaphysical text A Course In Miracles, and it teaches that this is how life is SUPPOSED to feel… and if it’s not, then something has gone wrong.
Forget what people say, or what people will think, or what society expects of you. If there’s something you truly want to pursue, then do it. Do it for your soul and nothing else.
Your soul’s purpose is to live joyfully. Life is NOT supposed to be a struggle. Yes we experience challenges and obstacles, and they are necessary to our growth, but there is always joy to be found in every situation.
When I was bullied in school, I found joy in developing a closer relationship to my sister.
When I fought in court over finances with my ex-husband, I found joy in using my wits and my intelligence to overcome the fear and win the case.
When our car nearly broke down in the middle of the Nullarbor, we found joy in the willingness and support of strangers on the same journey.
What is your joy right now? What joy of yours is hidden behind fear or society’s expectations?
