3 Things They Don’t Teach You About The Law Of Attraction (And Why It’s Not Working For You Yet)
When I first learnt about the power of my mind, and how we can literally create anything we desire, out of nothing but THOUGHTS, I was fascinated.
Movies like The Secret teach us that all we need to do is THINK or WISH for something, and keep our minds focused on the one thing, and it will appear.
Books like Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” (which The Secret is based off) lay out the principals of the Law of Attraction, and how it governs everything in the universe.
We really do have the power to become anything we desire, to manifest millions of dollars, a soul mate, winning the competition or a life of luxury…
But if it was just THINKING, surely everyone would be living their dream life now, right?
The problem is that these movies and books are only telling part of the story. They are leaving out some key elements.
I’ve discovered 3 things, through my research and my own trials, that might just be the 3 missing key ingredients that can make all the difference.
The Law of Attraction is more than just wishing and hoping. It’s more than just writing out goals everyday, and making a dream board. Wishing and thinking harder doesn’t make it easier.
Even if you know all the steps, as laid out by Napoleon Hill, activating the Law of Attraction takes more than just going through the motions.
The three missing ingredients are:
- Emotion
- Action
- Gratitude
You’ve got to get your emotions involved and put feeling behind your thoughts and words.
You’ve got take action towards your goals, no matter how small, but just do something.
And the tricky little side note of the Law of Attraction is that it only attracts more of what you already ARE – so you need to develop gratitude and appreciation for your life as you are right now.
Let’s explore these a little further…
Emotion
Our feelings and emotions are the gateways to our higher power. They are what connect us to spirituality, and they are the fuel that keeps our fires burning.
Scientists now know that our emotions are heavily linked to our memories. Any event that induced a strong emotional response will be etched into your mind. Not only will you remember exactly where you were on 9/11, but you’ll know who you were with, what you were doing, and the feelings will even surface again.
Strong emotions help to burn into our reality and cement our desires.
It’s not enough to just imagine our future reality – we need to desire it so bad that we can taste it.
If your desire is to be on holiday in Fiji, you need to feel the butterflies as the plane takes off, feel the warmth from the sun on your arms as you lie on the beach, feel the refreshing cool liquid of your pina colada slide down your throat, feel the sand crunching under your toes.
Add in the other senses too – hear the gentle waves lapping at the shore, listen to the squealing kids as they explore the rock pools, shield your eyes from the glare of the sun as you sit up to see the mountains in the distance and the red sailboat in the bay.
One of the personal development tools, and “power of the mind” actions that many gurus suggest to follow, is to write your goals every day. Or to at least write them once and READ them every day.
But to activate the Law of Attraction, every time you write or read your goals, you need to add in the associated emotions and really FEEL into it. Visualise and imagine it as your reality.
It takes a little longer, but without the emotions, nothing will manifest.
Action
Napoleon Hill also said “Goals without action are just a daydream.”
When watching interviews of people like Dr Demartini, as they discuss their involvement with The Secret film, we learn that they were dismayed with the major piece of the puzzle left OUT.
It’s not enough to just FEEL and THINK your desires. The universe won’t plop a million bucks on your doorstep as you sit on the couch and wish for it.
When you take decisive action towards your goals, you’re saying to the universe that you’re serious, and the universe gets off it’s butt and meets you halfway!
Want some new clients this week? Make some phone calls and post an offer on your facebook page, so the universe can send them to you.
Sticking to your healthy eating plan? Set pop-up reminders in your phone to keep you on track and motivated, so the universe can help with your willpower.
Dreaming of your next holiday? Visit a travel agent for prices and ask around your friends for recommendations, so the universe can send you some amazing deals.
As soon as you’ve set a goal, take action towards it. No matter how small the action you take, just do something!
Success is not achieved at the end, it’s set in motion with the first step.
Gratitude
Have you noticed how when you’re active, working out and feeling great in your body, that it’s also easier to choose healthy foods, and you don’t even crave the treats?
Here’s the little-known “by-the-way” about the Law of Attraction…
It’s only a MAGNET for more of the same.
It’s the evidence of the saying “Success breeds success.”
However you FEEL, whatever you HAVE, and whoever you ARE, the Law of Attraction only magnifies that.
So here’s the negative side of it…
Complaining about being broke? Manifest a speeding fine.
Feeling like you’d rather die than do your public speaking assignment? Manifest the flu.
Believing there’s no good men left? Manifest jerks on Tinder who ghost you after the first date.
Buuuuut… if you’re reality really does suck, how do you manifest something you don’t have? What if you want to be wealthy with a successful business, and there literally are tumbleweeds in your bank accounts?
It might sound like a tall order right now, but you need to focus on what you’re grateful for.
What you focus on will expand, and gratitude is the strongest and easiest emotion to cultivate a positive mindset.
There’s always something to be grateful for. There are people in the world who are starving, who don’t have running water. Maybe they have iPhones, but without electricity how do they charge them when the battery goes flat?
Here in Australia and in the few lucky countries of the developed world, we have a whole house, a plug for our phones, internet connection, health care, a stable government. We can go for a walk, breathe fresh air, look up at the sky.
Even if you’re feeling sad, broke, lost or empty, by cultivating gratitude and appreciation for what you already have, you’ll start to attract more of what you want.
Oprah Winfrey credits gratitude as the single biggest influence in shaping her life.
How to bring gratitude into your day? Notice every little thing the universe sends your way.
Sold a workshop ticket? Thanks universe, more of those please!
Happy tired feeling after a good workout? Yes, I love this, bring it on!
Speeding fine? Thanks universe, for the reminder to slow down and pay attention
Living in gratitude, appreciation and happiness attracts more of those things to you.
The Law of Attraction will work for all of us, when we know and apply these 3 missing ingredients.
So there you have it.
Feel your feelings. Don’t just repeat your goals outload or say your mantra by rote. Take the time to feel into it, breathe into it, visualise and imagine all the wonderful things you desire.
And then, take action. No matter how small, when you start taking action, the universe meets you halfway.
Whatever comes your way, notice and appreciate the bounty you already have, be grateful for everything you are, and you’ll attract more of the same.
